Kiteworks started life in 1991 when windsurfing husband and wife team Amanda and Chris Harmon were looking for a lightwind alternative to windsurfing and discovered stunt kite flying.

They started manufacturing stunt kites and as the sport grew traction kites (large powerful controllable kites) and kite buggies were added to the Business. In 1996 after a stint in the US Lachlan Beed bought the business and being a hanglider and powered hanglider pilot soon discovered that traction kites were his thing.

test3.jpgIn 1997 kiteworks had developed quite a team of buggiers who were looking to evolve and started heading for the water. Initially long downwinders bodydragging with foils at Merewether, then sandboards and surfboards and mals. In 1998 the realunchable inflated tube kites arrived helping newbies attracted to the crazy sport get the hang of things. This was when the kiteboarding school was established In 2000 Australias first kiteboard event the Port Stephens "love in" was arranged with kiteboarders from around Oz and new Zealand getting together for a low key cruisy event where competition took a backseat to having fun.

The first long distance downwinder was run in the world at the event which was 30 km. From Stockton to Birubi Pt a truly epic day. In 2001 Lachlan spent 6 mths at Peter Lynns in New Zealand and has brought a wealth of experience back to Kiteworks.
