We have been teaching kitesurfing for 9 years and are NSW longest established kite school. Our instructors are qualified IKO instructors and we have established an excellent record of achievement with our students 85% of our students in the last 2 years becoming competent level 3 IKO riders. This is how it is done.
Lesson 1, kite flying
Before you even have a lesson with one of our instructors it is essential that you have trainer kite experience. We hire these out for just $50 for 1 week or they can be bought from $140 and are handy to lend to your friends down the track when they want to have a go. We can also give you a one hour lesson plus techniques to practice on the trainer before your one on one lesson on the big kite. Our lessons cost $65 per hour on the trainer kite. It's the closest thing to a kitesurfing simulator. This experience will save you heaps of grief and money as you become familiar with the wind.
Lesson 2, handling a large kite
We teach you the fundamentals of traction kiting showing you how to set up and create and controlling power. In this lesson we do not necessarily get in the water but you will be able to fly traction kites solo which sets you up for our recommended 5-10 hrs of consolidation solo with a traction kite in winds up to 18 kts. 90% of kitesurfing is confident kite control (2 hrs duration)
AT THIS POINT SOME STUDENTS CONTINUE WITH AN INSTRUCTOR FOR ANOTHER LESSON CONSOLIDATING WHAT HAS BEEN LEARNT IN LESSON 1 AND POTENTIALLY LEARNING SOME OF THE SKILLS IN LESSON 2.
LESSON 3, get on the water
This is where we combine the skills learnt in lesson 1 with water and board skills. Once again we teach you the nuts and bolts required to combine kite and board. There is no replacement for experience. This can be done solo in winds less than 20 kts or you can return and consolidate your skills with one of our instructors.
PLEASE NOTE WE ALWAYS TAILOR OUR LESSONS TO SUIT THE RATE OF PROGRESS OF THE STUDENT. Our lessons are one on one and last 2 hrs and cost $180 (for an extra person add $80) equipment included.
When you learn with us you are given some of the most professional tuition around. We use the latest headset communicator so we can talk to you on the water. Our tuition does not end on the water. We encourage all our students to call for free advice whenever they like.
