The Instinct Light kitesurfing kite is an affordable, ultra light, 3 strut kite ideal for a wide range of riders and conditions. The Light is fun and easy to fly and we feel this versatile machine will redefine recreational Kitesurfing.

The Light is the perfect travel kite; light in weight and packs very small due to its compact size and minimalist 3 Strut Concept. Take the 12m on holiday with your surfboard and you have the perfect travel combo that will be under any airlines weight limits! The low end grunt of the Instinct Light is truly impressive and combined with its massive depower, the wind range of the Light allows you to consider a one size quiver for most days.

For wave riding, the Light’s low weight is the secret that unleashes its increased performance from such a stable shape. It literally hangs in the air even in super light winds and at the edge of the wind window…. it just keeps pulling. The lightness is really felt when on fast waves …when moving with a quick wave the rider can easily overtake the kite and create less tension on the lines between rider and kite. While a heavy kite loses power and dies in this situation, the Instinct Light just keeps pulling away from the rider maintaining constant tension & pressure in the lines. This allows the rider to concentrate 100% on the wave knowing that the Light is always ready, and with its progressive steering one can confidently snap turns at will up or down the line.

For intermediate riders interested in learning to ride unhooked the Light is also the kite to own. You can un-hook without stressing your head with crazy power, the Light seriously makes riding un-hooked easy and stress free and therefore makes it easier for you to master your moves. This is the unhooked school kite that will allow the rider to learn those ballsy moves with ease.

The Light has also been designed to be as easy and adaptable as possible, making it the ideal kite for schools and beginners looking for simplicity and a quick learning curve. Line Trimmers affixed above each bar end, allow instructors to adjust the perfect line tension for any wind condition. If you prefer more bar pressure, simply pull in the trimmers. Want that light feel, just let the trimmer back out.

The relaunch is almost automatic, just turn the bar and it’s in the air. The Lights constant power and fluid steering combined with user friendly characteristics makes the Light a dream for accelerating any learning curve. It is powerful enough to tow into the largest of waves, yet its low aspect shape will keep you on your board and not eject you when the trigger is pulled.

We also feel that this kite is ideal for the occasional kiter or family that loves kiting yet does not want to invest in a lot of equipment. With the Light they have the best of all worlds, a fun and easy kite for all ages of the family that has full depower, re-assuring safety, easy relaunch, and not only is it light in weight it is also light on the wallet.

  • No Pulleys in the kite or the bar
  • Easy relaunch – just turn the bar
  • Total Depower – From Full Power to No Power
  • Predictable and easy handling
  • Huge wind-range >> Low end and High end
  • Points high into the wind >> Easy to ride upwind
  • 07 Bar design with integrated flag out safety and O-Shit handle
  • 3m, 5m, 7m, 9m, 12m

All in all it’s a kite to leave you smiling! We all love the Light as have the many riders of all levels that have tested it the past months. For sure it has creases appearing from the power line attachment but that is cosmetic and due to the new concept of only supporting the Light with 3 struts. When designing anything you face problems that need a solution, there are always trade-offs for ideas or concepts. The Light’s brief was to be super light in weight to make it fun and easy for a versatile use. We have achieved this but the trade off are the creases caused by only supporting the kites structure by 3 struts.

Test the Light and make your own judgment, but we are 100% confident that you will love the Lights fun, performance characteristics and see a new design drive throughout the industry for lighter kites. We do not agree with recent kite designs that see modern kites looking like a windsurf sail with crazy battens and added weight! You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to realize that all that weight added to a kite is not going to help its flying ability. We gave up windsurfing for simplicity and serious altitude; leave the battens & hassles to the plank lovers.

We believe in designing kites for the sake of flying performance not added hype.

For such a simple kite, the feel when you are flying it is great. All the sizes from the 5m up to the 12m will just make you smile. So easy to use, but you do need to know that the sail will flap when you depower. This is for 2 reasons, first there are only 3 struts, and second because when depowered it really is depowered, completely. This depower all happens in the bar so that it is suitable for beginners.

The Light comes in a simple bag, is easy to store the kite with struts inflated, and with thick waterproof cloth on the bottom for when it is left in the car or garage! No mesh in the bag as it just breaks and gets caught, but it comes with a separate mesh ’sock’ to put over the end of the sail to keep it together.

Review of the Ozone Instinct Light Kitesurfing Kite by Christian Nerdrum

“The specs of this kite might scare a lot of serious kiters away. 3 struts and great for beginners.

- I am definitely an Instinct Sport rider. The Ozone Instinct Light is too simple, blah, blah, blah..

Are you sure? If you think it over, a beginner has many of the same needs and demands for making a kite as you and me. Who does not want a kite that is great for relaunch, that is rock stable, it does not stall and de-powers a LOT?

Well those qualifications might not be enough for you though, but that would not be the whole arsenal of Instinct Light either.

For the lovers of the C-kites responsiveness, this is the kite of all Instincts that give most feeling from the bar. Some say this is too heavy, and for the 9 and up, you might want it to turn faster with less input. But considering that a 9 pulls like a 13 C-kite, maybe it is not so slow and heavy after all? There have been days were I got underpowered on my 9 at the same time as my friends do on 15! Quite crazy, since my board has some serious rocker that normally would slow me down a lot. Suddenly, on all these Instincts you can ride boards with more rocker - and that is also the future of freestyle!

Talking about freestyle, this kite pops like is was made for nothing else. A massive pull ignites the takeoff, smoothly takes you into the air, and if you gave it enough kick, the kite leaves you in peace to land the new trick you never stomped before. And if you don’t stomp it and the kite crashes?

Relaunch is an easy game. Pull one side of the bar and the kite backs up on the side, keep some power and steer it back up.

The lift of this kite is definitely better then a lot of C-kite out there, and the hang-time is very good.

Instinct Light loves the waves too. Stable and light are two key features.

For those who will have to deal with onshore wind on the waves, de-power is just as important. Easy going - power, no power. Just let it fly up there when you do your thing in the wave. You can feel how it de-powers way more then in the Sport and Edge. When you leave the bar all the way out, the fabric is fluttering. Nothing to worry about, just a sign that the kite is flagging out.

The name is right - it’s Light and there are just 3 struts on this kite. How this kite could become this rigid and massive in how it feels is just impressive. But we just have to be happy dealing with less weight. This kite does not want to come down from the sky.

There exists a 5 and a 3 in Instinct Light. Consider getting a 5. This is a playful toy, great for heavy days where you still want to do some tricks or get out in those waves that only hits your coast twice a year. The kite is slowed down and very controllable with balanced bar pressure.

A true test should also come up with some backsides of the product - and as always, this is personal, but there are a few:

The bridles on the kite can snag and riders must be aware of this and tell people that launch to look for this.

Chicken loop is ready for a serious update.

Even if just 3 struts, One pump is never a minus.

All the best Christian”

Review of the Ozone Instinct Light Kitesurfing Kite by Christoph Riddle

At the beginning of June I had the tremendous fortune to be able to spend two weeks in a beach house on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. As luck would have it, this house was situated right on Kailua Bay, which is one of the best kiting spots Oahu has to offer. The bay offers nearly endless warm choppy water as well as five to ten foot waves far out in the bay. This was a perfect opportunity to try out my newly acquired Instinct Lights.

The kites (a 9m and 12m) proved to be ideal travel kites. Their light weight and small packed size helped to ease the woes of air travel. Once I arrived in Hawaii the Instinct Lights allowed me to get on the water quickly with an amazingly brief set up time. These kites maintain all the desirable characteristics of a beginner oriented kite while successfully bridging the gap into intermediate level kite territory. These are, without a doubt, the most stable kites I’ve ever flown. The narrow beach of Kailua forces those walking upwind to position their kites over the tall palms that border the beach. This can be scary with a kite that is even slightly unstable. But the Instinct Light performed beautifully. In fact, to this day, neither of these kites has ever fallen out of the sky.

Predictably, the flying performance was somewhat less than I would have expected from a higher aspect kite. Upwind performance and low end power were the kite’s weakest points. I found that the kite simply begged for strong wind. The 12 wasn’t happy until the wind was consistently in excess of 15 mph. The high wind performance is another story. I haven’t had a chance to adequately test the high end but, having flown the 12m in gusty 25 mph winds, I can say that the upper end of the range is a long way off. The depower is simply amazing. Even in winds this strong, the pull is negligible when the kite is completely depowered. This reliable depower boosted my confidence – helping me to land my first handle passes.

While not a performance kite, the Instinct Light fits its niche well. It is an ideal high or gusty wind kite for a rider who isn’t looking for an aggressive ride.
